Financial Report (Q3/2024)

This quarter saw some important developments as we continued to focus on supporting the children’s educational needs and ensuring their well-being in and out of school. A detailed breakdown of how donations were used during Quarter 3 (August 28-November 2) can be found below. We also have a few updates on the girls and use of funds:

  1. School Uniforms for Isiolo Students: While I was in Isiolo over the summer we learned that the primary school girls were not in a good school environment and decided to move them. Thus, at the start of this semester, the children from Isiolo were transferred to a new school and required new uniforms. Their previous uniforms, still in good condition, were donated to other children at Ngaremara Primary School, many of whom could not afford their own. This not only reduced waste but also ensured that more children had proper school attire.
  2. Branded Uniforms to Prevent Theft: An issue we faced previously was the recurring theft of the children's uniforms, particularly when left out to dry overnight after being washed. After considering the repeated cost of replacing stolen items, we made the decision to brand the girls uniforms. This branding has acted as a deterrent to theft, ensuring that the children’s belongings are more secure and eliminating the need for frequent uniform replacements. Although this required an initial investment of around $80, it will result in long-term savings.
  3. Mentorship Lunch with our team lead Cathy: One of the key highlights this quarter was an informal lunch organized for the children with our team lead, Cathy Karungo. This provided a valuable opportunity for them to bond, ask questions, and connect with a trusted mentor. During my time in Isiolo, I discovered that many of the girls are grappling with mental health challenges, navigating puberty, and adjusting to the complexities of friends and school life. Recognizing this, we wanted to create a safe space where they could openly share their concerns and receive guidance. We hope that over time this lunch will help foster a stronger sense of community, trust, and emotional support among the group, offering them a crucial outlet during this pivotal stage in their development.
